Longest Continuously-Run General Store In The US Closes Up Shop

The oldest general store in the U.S. is closing up shop for good after 224 years of continuous operation.

Gray’s general store in Adamsville, Rhode Island has been ran by the Waite family for six generations since opening in 1788.

However, its new owner, Jonah Waite, said that the store could not keep up with competition, WLNE-TV reported.

The 21-year-old has been the owner of the store since his father died last month. He has said from then that the store was closing prompting people to flock to the store.

The store closed on Sunday. GoodLawd, that’s a long time to be open for business. Pity it had to close its doors.
