An angry man in Newport, Vermont ran over more than half of the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department’s fleet of cars on Thursday allegedly as revenge for a prior arrest.
According to news reports, the 34-year-old Roger Pion is currently being held on $50,000 bail after he used a tractor to repeatedly run over police cruisers and a transport van.
Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The police, however, had to run to catch the man as they were left with no available cars to give chase, this report says.
“We had nothing to pursue him with. It’s more than half our fleet. We have 11 cars,” the report quotes Chief Deputy Philip Brooks in an interview with the Burlington Free Press.
Damages resulting from the incident are estimated to run as high as $300,000 as some of the cars Pion ran over were practically brand new.
